To make it easier to find rides in particular areas, I have listed rides in several parts of the Wellington Region (outside of Wellington City). Mostly they are rides that are less than an hour’s drive from the city. I have sorted them into different areas:
- The Hutt Valley – from the Rimutaka Rail Trail in the north, down the river valley, to Pencarrow in the south.
- Porirua – From Tawa to Pukerua, and from Mana to Pauatahanui and Whitby
- Kapiti – From Paekakariki to Otaki
- The Wairarapa
Links are listed in reverse chronological order, i.e. the latest ride is at the top.
4 and 5 November 2017 – A Wairarapa Weekend – We rode the Woodside Trail and the Waiohine Valley Road, attended a Scottish Country dance in Carterton, went to a Farmers Market, and visited scarecrows in Gladstone.
15 February 2017 – Wairarapa - We planned to try the Rimutaka Rail Trail from the Featherston side, but that did not work out. Drove to Ocean Beach Road, biked a short distance, but unsuccessful. Also biked a short distance from Cross Creek on the Rimutaka Incline, but also unsuccessful. But an interesting day.
30 March 2016 – Wairarapa again – Martinborough to Gladstone – An out-and-back ride to Gladstone on Longbush Road.
2 March 2016 – Wairarapa ride – Martinborough to Gladstone – A 72 km loop from Martinborough to Gladstone, lunch at the Gladstone Inn, then return via Parkvale, Kokotau and Ponatahi.
4 November 2015 Martinborough Charity Fun Ride – A 48 km loop on quiet country roads, from Martinborough to Millars Road, and back on Ponatahi Road.
16 November 2013 – Wairarapa Weekend – Highland gathering in Upper Hutt, then biked Greytown to Woodside Rail Trail, and back; attended an SCD social dance. Next day biked to the Waiohine River, around the side and back streets of Greytown. Lunch at Margrain Vineyard, and a ride around the Martinborough area.
19 August 2013 – Greytown to Woodside Trail – There and back, then a special celebratory lunch.
